Family Assessments

Residential assessments in Dorset

residential family assessments in Dorset

We are pleased to provide residential family assessments in Dorset at our welcoming four-bedroom house, which can accommodate up to two families simultaneously.

Our assessments offer intensive care and support to help safeguard at-risk children. They typically run for around 12 weeks, although programmes can be shorter or longer depending on individual needs.

Person-centred approach

Every family staying at our centre has a programme designed specifically around their circumstances and the needs of their child or children. We value the individuality and integrity of each family, and we recognise that one size does not fit all.

Our support can include help with daily tasks such as shopping, cooking, cleaning, attending meetings, and other parenting responsibilities. Families also have 24-hour access to our highly experienced social work team.

Supported by A Proffessional Team

Our assessment team are experts in working with families who face complex and entrenched challenges. Parents typically involved in assessments include those:

  • with mental ill-health
  • with learning disabilities
  • who have a history of substance or alcohol misuse
  • who have been victims of abuse, neglect or violence
  • who are very young and struggling

Modern & secure

Although referrals often involve parents with babies or very young children under one, Oakvale Healthcare also carries out assessments with parents of older children.

At the end of an assessment, whether residential or non-residential, our social workers provide an expert opinion with clear recommendations on what parents need to do to meet the needs of their children.

A formal report is produced for the courts, setting out the outcomes and recommendations.
